Puntos, ¿si o no?

No me entran.

Women, we are impulsive. We are capable of buying a pair of shoes without even walking them too much just because 'they are amazing', convincing ourselves that they fit perfectly and they are the most comfortable thing in the world. Okay, so that's what happened to me with these shoes. I bought them during a trip in which the weather was so cold that I was wearing whool stockings underneath my thights, so when I saw these babies I had to try them on but my laziness made me do it without taking the stockings off. They fitted perfectly so I guessed that if they did with that thick layer they would do it without it. Besides, they weren't expensive at all and if I ended up not using them it wouldn't be such a waste of money...

I returned home from this trip and try them on super excited about owning them! They didn't fit. At all.  Okay, I could slip my foot in them but all my fingers were numb because of the small space they had. I asked myself how to solve it and since cutting a finger off was not an option, I decided to take them to a local shoe maker so he can stretch them out for me. Now, they were fitting perfectly. Happy (and kinda sore after spending 6 hours on them) I come home and put them in their place in my closet. Time goes by and there was no occation to take them out for a stroll until this Saturday that I decided to wear them again. In that moment, the surprise arrived because they were not fitting well anymore: They were finger-killers again! Mad about life, I decided to check the marvelous universal guide known as Internet to be able to find a quick solution that could avoid me taking them to stretch out every week.

Here's the result of my research and experimentation of the different techniques to stretch tight shoes and never let them go back to how they were.

FREEZING TECHNIQUE
Fill a hole-free sealable sandwich bag or similar plastic bag about one third to halfway with water and seal, one bag for each of your shoes. Place a bag inside each shoe and push into place so that it fits the inner shoe completely (be sure it fits right to heel and toe). Place your shoes in the freezer and let them sit until it freezes, or overnight. The water in the bag will turn to ice and expand into your shoes. Remove from the freezer and leave to thaw for about 20 minutes before trying to remove the bags. Try the shoes on again to see how the shoes fit and repeat if needed.

RUBBING ALCOHOL TECHNIQUE

Simply rub alcohol directly onto the parts of the shoe requiring stretching; put the shoe or boot on while still wet, as the alcohol will dry quickly. Another variation is to take a pair of cotton socks, soak them in rubbing alcohol and squeeze out the excess. Then put on the socks and wear with the shoes until the alcohol dries. Repeat several times if necessary.

DAMP NEWSPAPER TECHNIQUE

Scrunch up wet newspaper and stuff it into your shoes. Stuff in as much as the shoe will fit but be careful not to distort the shoe shape when using this method; if the shoe appears distorted, remove newspaper until it looks a good shape again. Leave to sit until the shoes dry. Remove the newspaper and try on the shoes. (Note that this method can also include freezing the shoes for added expansion.) Wet socks can be substituted for newspaper.

I decided to mash-up all this tuts and follow this steps:

1. Rub the inside of the shoe with cotton embedded un alcohol.
2. Cut stripes of newspaper and fold it irregularly.
3. Soak the paper in water.
4. Scrunch up the soaked paper until there is no water dripping from it.
5. Stuff several pieces of paper in the part of the shoe you want to stretch.
6. Let it dry (I left it for approximately 2 days).
(Another alternate step would be keeping the paper that we remove from the shoe after step 6 and stuff it inside the shoe every time we put them on the closet after using them.)

I hope it's helpful, for me it was a great solution! As a bonus, here are some photos I took practicing focusing, exposure time and depth of field. This was the result of that:

As I told you previously in Gaby Herbstein's post (whom I had too many expectations in and left the lecture with a neutral feeling about it), this thrusday I went to this event of lectures dedicated to Communication, Advertising and design held in my lovely city since 2006. For me it's kinda a lucky charm to assist (it's my third time in a row this year) and I always enjoy the exhausting and long day. One of the best things about this event is being able to spend the breaks in between lectures under the sun, next to the river 'cause this event is held at CEC (Contemporary Expresions' Center), which has its  big sheds next to the coast of the Parana river. Buuuuuuut this year the weather didn't help at all and besides the rain in the morning we suffered from the horrible humidity and the day became longer than it was.

The speakers were very different from each other and came from a variety of branches of design and image. The conclusion that I took with me is thanks to G. Herbstein, whom even though spent more than 2 hours speaking of relative and not so relative stuff, and it is the simple idea that everything is possible. With determination, strenght and blind senses to overcome obstacles everything eventually happens. It's super interesting finding out how people like us started and everything they accomplished almost randomly. I still haven't figured out if I wanna live the rest of my life living of design but this rule can be applied to any situation. Recently I became aware of the amazing power of laws of atraction (I don't wanna talk too much about this because at some point I want to tell you my experiencie) and after this, I firmed up my beliefs.

Anyway, here are some photos taken by me and my classmate and friend Sofia, who gave me a few quick lessons about photography that I needed so much and I still do! haha

Photography is my newest hobby (in which I'm giving my first baby steps). If I stop to think about inspiring personalities of this world I think of Mario Testino, Annie Leibovitz, David Lachapelle, or localy, Gabriel Rocca, Andy Cherniavsky and the great (winner of this humble space) Gaby Herbstein.

Fascinated by her point of view, I'm super excited about listening to her lecture in an event dedicated to graphic design and advertising based on mi city, Rosario, since a few years and keeps growing and growing: El grito creativo (it translates as The creative scream). I'm taking my precarious camera with me to try to capture the long day that I have tomorrow. You can read more about this event in their website.

Anyway, ahead you'll see some amazing photos of her just to warm up...
